Spurs Signing: Maddie Layman
Pittsburgh-native Maddie Layman is putting on the blue and yellow to join the Pittsburgh Hotspurs (WPSL) Women’s First Team in our inaugural season.
This will be Layman’s 4th season in the WPSL (2019, 2018, 2016 with Steel City FC).
“Maddie is a savage! She’s an incredibly experienced, true competitor,” said Tom (Tommo) Ovenden. “That experience will help with creating the culture we want to establish and help the younger players reach the next level of competing.”
Layman is a 2016 graduate of Duquesne (D1) where she captained the Lady Dukes her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Additionally, Layman was named to the 2013 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, was apart of the first A10 Championship ever for Duquesne her junior year, and led the team in points for two of her collegiate seasons where she appeared in 75 games (starting 66).
The Wexford-native was the leading scorer at North Allegheny HS in 2011 and competed with Beadling Soccer Club.
“I want to support women’s sports and help build a strong culture of women’s soccer here in Pittsburgh,” shared Layman. “I am looking forward to continuing to grow my soccer career with this team and creating an unforgettable bond with the girls and coaches.”
The Women’s First Team kicks off their season at home on May 16th.
