Putting on the Hotspurs badge again, we’re pleased to welcome Sabrina Pettinato to the Pittsburgh Hotspurs (WPSL) Women’s First Team. Pettinato competed with the Hotspurs for three years in our College Prep Phase after training with Coach Dave Richmond since a youth player.

“Sabrina has an amazing attitude and is super intelligent – she really raises the average IQ of the team with a great technical and all-around understanding of the game,” shared Coach Tom (Tommo) Ovenden who also coached Pettinato when she competed with Steel City for the past two seasons (2018, 2019).

“Dave Richmond did a great job with Sabrina over the years. She’s the start of many #homegrown Hotspurs players we will soon see coming through our First Teams.”

At Hotspurs, Pettinato received both the Players Award (voted by her peers) and 2019 Club Player of the Year (awarded to the player in their phase that embodies the #Hotspursway on and off the field).

Competing with the Hempfield Spartans, Pettinato received Honorable mention, 2nd Team All-Section, and All-Section Player throughout her high school career. Additionally, she participated in the PA West ODP during that time.

Currently, she is studying architecture at Kent State.

“I am excited to play with Pittsburgh Hotspurs and get back on the field after my spinal fusion from last summer. I always look forward to this time when I get to play with this great group of talented women.” shared Pettinato.

“After playing with them for the past two years, I feel like I can always look up to them and learn so much when training with them. I can already tell this season is going to be a success with the Hotspurs Club now behind us to give us more resources and support.”

The Women’s First Team will play their first home game on Saturday, May 16th, at Founders Field.
